Course Description

Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program

This course is intended for candidates to use subject matter knowledge to plan, deliver, assess, and reflect on math instruction for all students, consistent with Common Core and California State Standards. The course presents strategies for teaching mathematics emphasizing a conceptual understanding of topics typically taught in elementary and middle school, including the four Domains: Number sense; Algebra and Functions; Measurement and Geometry; Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability. High leverage practices, methods and materials for the sequential development of thinking will be discussed and practiced. This course is also designed to facilitate the candidate's development of critical analytical skills in the evaluation and interpretation of mathematics in theory and practice. Strategies for developing English Language Mathematical Literacy and Language will be included in this course. Inclusionary strategies and techniques including but not limited to co-teaching and providing in class academic support will be emphasized.
