Course Description

This course is organized to prepare candidates to teach integrated history social studies/visual performing arts in a general education inclusive setting in order to help students develop a better understanding of the cultures, events, and historical relevance of a specific time period or event. Additionally, this course is designed to prepare candidates in developing an interdisciplinary approach to History Social Science (History, Government/Civics, Geography, Economics) and Visual Performing Arts (Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theater, Visual Arts) instruction by providing multiple learning opportunities for diverse learners to develop as artistically literate individuals as well as connect to the importance of the arts across time and culture. The course is designed to help teachers create a literacy rich, inquiry based curriculum where students ask questions, develop and support arguments, conduct independent research, evaluate interpretations and evidence, and present findings in a cogent and persuasive manner.
